Well, hat off for being out there. It's a really nice shot. I know this isn't the critique forum, but I do want to mention that the bottom half is very dark, although you seem to have captured some detail there... could you bring it out and make it visible, or is the extreme darkness a creative choice?

I was trying to be artistic with this one, and possibly have a shot that would print up in large size. Some like it dark, while others would like to see what's below the mountain. I can lighten it up, so that the lake below shows with the reflection, but to me the low light atmosphere takes away from the central theme, which is the highlighted mountains.

I am interested in your thoughts.

A tough one. It seems there should be some kind of richness on the bottom. Not like light, but maybe very dark color instead of black?

Here is my original shot. I was experimenting with Photoshop CS2 and trying different styles to see which would be the most acceptable. This shot was taken at 6:30 am on a very cold day in Spray Lakes Provincial Park in Alberta under very low light conditions at sunrise. Your comments have helped, thanks.

Whoah talk about nice editing! I would personally just bring back a little more of the lake. Great mountain glow though, the early wake up was defintely worth it

That is a stunning shot ( your first posted one) I love darker shots, maybe I would crop off a little more of the bottom just above the lake line. IMO

Kudos for getting out there in such cold weather, as for the picture, I think the processing is good except some details were lost.

I love the second one. My eyes are still drawn to the highlighted mountians. The lake just adds (not competes) with the mountains IMHO.

I like what you are going for with the edit but I think it looses a sense of scale. IMO, it doesn't have the majesty that I've seen in most of your work.

I find that I like the original better...but it does look like it's asking for some kind of editing.

Good on ya for trying something different...I look forward to seeing more.

Thinking about it for a few days, I like the treatment on the first (crop), but maybe it should be applied to the second (original).

I thought about it instantly when I stumbled on the main image at;
