Got up early, wore jeans, long-sleeved shirt, and my field hat. I took a hike down the bank of Brushy Creek here in Round Rock, TX. Folks, there were so many Green Hawkers, Blue Dashers, and Violet Dashers that I was like a little boy in a candy store. About 20 minutes into my adventure, I was up close to the bank in the water stalking a Green Hawker, when I hear the weeds below me rustle...I almost crapped my pants when I saw a water moccasin slither out on top of the water. Tell you what...I was shaking so bad that I could hardly shoot. After about 3 minutes of calming down, I took two more shots and my 2gb CF card was full...lol, I only brought a 2gb CF card, duh?

All captured with a Canon EOS 30D, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, Canon Speedlite 580EX I flash with this DIY Ring-Flash

#1 Green Dasher Who you looking at?

WOW! I swear #1, & 3 look like he's smiling! He's almost cute! Awesome shots, #1 being my favorite. Looks like he's posing!

Oh. My. God.

Unbelievably
good photos, every single one of 'em! Incredible detail and colour.

ahh found it!
I dropped my jaw and had to find it - fantastic work there - the ringlight is working really well for you in those shots! And only 2GB?? you will have to go back with more :)

Nicely done Lex!! the lighting looks great, and not too harsh. I'm guessing you were shooting in the early morning or evening to avoid the sun??

One of these days I will have to try to rig up your ring light!!

Cheers

10/10! Beeeeeaauuutiful!!!! 1 looks like hes smiling, awesome!

Thanks everyone for the comments. 250Gimp...I shot these around 8AM and some in fairly direct sunlight...but the sun's strength isn't too hard that time of day. The diffusing material on the ring-light makes for really nice fill-flash.

You got some spectacular detail out of those shots. Well done. I bet you could have cropped in to a couple of the shots a bit closer and got some real detail out of those eyes!

It's just too bad there's no metadata to peruse. :grumpy:

Thanks for all the comments. As for metadata...it's all there...looking under "more properties" bottom right of each image on my flickr pages...for example the first photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/motleypixel/2817944797/ when you click on "more properties" you'll see this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/motleypixel/2817944797/meta/
