The Egg Slicer: A Rainy Day Project

Thanks Rick, Yeah, it was a single bare bulb aimed directly at the side of the glass. I want to play with this again. I like the lighting but I want to tame the highlights and CB busted me on that old glass. That thing has been banged around more years then I can remember

I generally like it. It's got good individual elements...the glass of milk, the milk, the egg, the slicer. I'm not too keel on the background though...that light patch, and also the textured part both look a bit uncontrolled. But you know what? This is soooooooooo much more interesting to me than a photo of a cat, or a dog,etc..

Next up: an homage to Weston's pepper!!! (I did NOT think of the Adams shot at all when I saw this; he holds zero mind-share on glasses, or milk, in my book.)

Having an old glass vs a new glass depends on the feeling you are trying to portray. To me an old glass can work to give you more of a grungy feel to the photo which can play off of the tension of the egg slicer. Good concept.

Thanks Darrel, I couldn't agree more. A still life of a egg slicer is not one of Ansel's more notable accomplishments. I saw an article on some of AA's "forgotten prints". These were just B&W "around town snapshots" that anyone could have snapped. It kind'a blew my illusion. He was human after all.

@ EOV: Thanks for the comment. You're right. Simply changing the condition or style of the glass could change the mood of the shot completely
