No, but my great grandmother's house looked quite similar. Many houses of this era had two stories and large, wide open porches with rooms which allowed an easy flow of air through them. It was widely believed, though quite erroneously, mosquitoes wouldn't fly higher than 12 feet, thus all sleeping quarters were on the second floor. It made for a long trip to the outhouse on cold nights.

126 years old...probably not like a castle in England or France, but in the humidity given the near jungle like conditions, torrential rains, hurricanes, etc., I'd think if not old, for an all wood structure, at least "enduring."

It's always amazing to me how each person percieves a scene. I shot it from the rear toward the front where there were no 'branches" to obsfucate the view but the shot was boring beyond its sensor years. For me, the branches and hanging Spanish moss not just nicely frame the shot but give the house a sense of place and time as does converting to B&W instead of leavin it in color.

A friend of mine goes to the US every year for their holidays on a recent beer trip they told us about an historic town where they had to pay to get in they were not happy every house was younger than the one they lived in, i used to live in a farm house in Cornwall that was 200 years old but that was not old compared to some, twice a year we go to a pub near us that is nearly 600 years old it has been in the family over 100 years got to be one of the best pubs in the world

Cool. Don't get me wrong, I love the Spanish moss, if you could find an angle where it was in the frame but not covering as much of the house, it would be perfect.

I have to agree. I like the branches and moss, but it's just a little too much of them dominating the house. Granted I haven't been there to see the setting, but based on the shot, I would have moved to the right and slightly lower to get the peak of the house in the gap between the upper and lower branches.

Oh sure...in Florida, cutting down a Heritage Oak will get you a monster fine, but I doubt time served. I'll pass.
