the "gray ghost"

    the male northern harrier, also known as "the gray ghost", is much less often seen than the female... i've been told that females outnumber the male by as much as 4:1 in the general population, and that one male may service 3 or 4 nests during nesting season, which would make for some very busy boys! just providing food alone would be an all-day proposition! but they're lovely birds, and it's really fun to watch them hunt...

    thanks! they love to fly low over the tops of the grass looking for voles, and sometimes they'll pass close in front of me so i get this kind of perspective...
