Here is an ancient Bitternut hickory that must have been a couple hundred years old that fell on our property. Squirrels, coons, Wood ducks & numerous other birds used to call it home. There was a lot of rot but I got nearly three cord of firewood out of it.

Our primary heat source is from wood burning & here is some of next winters wood (09-10).

Makes sense to me. And the fact you have next years already to go somehow emphasizes what it takes to live there.

I bet she smells great burning,.. converting so much mass, serving so many creatures in her life.

Seriously? :( I fear for this country. . .

Amen!

That's a great stock of wood you've got there. It's only summer here in NZ but it's time to think about buying wood while it's cheap and will have plenty of time to dry out. Would be nice to have some spare trees hanging about :)

Something classic looking about that wood pile with the snow on top.. And the title makes complete sense..

that title doesn't make sense

mighty eventually?

Mighty (adj):

Used in the subject as: strong, full of might. ex: "The mighty Hercules".

Not as a synonym for 'very': ex: "I'm mighty fearful about the education our kids are getting these days".

Sheesh did you hand saw it too! I bet you got some tough hands. The color looks real nice. I have worked some wood and just love it. Maybe a turner could make a nice bowl out of that crotch or any burls.

Only when you make a big deal of it ;)

Ron - love the photo of you sitting on the stump, it's awesome. I'm knackered just looking at all the chopping. My back gets sore splitting enough for one night's fire!! Good effort.

Laf, hell no, I used a chainsaw.

I do a little woodworking too & here is a box & the light squares in the Chess table that were made from that tree.
