The moon (7 images)

I guess all bird photographers end up pointing the long lenses at the moon now and again when we don't own a telescope. So a few from over a couple of years.

1: The eye of the moon

Panasonic G2 and the Canon FD 300 F/2.8L on a cloudy night

2: Blue moon taken at 11 am in the morning

Sony NEX-7 and the Canon FD 500 F/4.5L

3: Full moon

Same set up as above

4: Switching to the Canon 800mm F/5.6L with a 1.4x TC on the NEX-7

More of a sepia tone on this one I guess.

7: Another blue moon, same shot as #2. For the life of me I can't figure out how this one ended up the way it did in Lightroom, but it did.

Wow Danny these are amazing! I am trying to picture what an 800mm lens would look like Didn't even know such a beast existed. You have some reeeally nice lenses and know how to use them! Number 4 is my favourite but hard to choose among this set.

#2,#6 & #7 all the way. I've tried moon shots like these, but mine are not even close to the clarity you get.. Not trying to hijack your thread Danny, but here's mine. These were handheld, did you use a tripod?

Impressive shot there Raj, good details as well. Nice work from that camera. I had the SX20 IS at one time Raj, excellent camera and I should have pointed it at the moon. Anyone is always welcome to post shots in my threads Raj, we all learn that way. So never worry about that The 800mm HAS to be tripod mounted Raj, you can't hold it. That's one thing you will miss from the SX50 IS Raj, that focal reach.

I have a little link for you Raj, one I spotted awhile ago with the SX50 IS He is fairly close though by the looks.

Dan: Yeah that 800mm is a love hate affair. That focal length takes a lot to get use to along with the size and of course, my lenses are all manual focus, no way could I afford the new versions even if I wanted to.


The 800mm with the tiny matchbox NEX-7 on the end of it .....

So the camera is just a box with a sensor at the end of the day, just a recording device.

The Canon FD 1200mm F/5.6L ?? No you can't see it at around $120,000 US, I'll pass Dave, LOL. A 1.4x TC is all you will get.

Yes I seen the price,that just insane.That 800 is real nice.I looked at the 600mm but I can t afford that one either.Really is a shame they set the prices out of reach for many people.
