On another note, was it safe to travel in Uzbekistan? Or is it just the western media which is scaring the people away?

well it was pretty darn safe.. only my last day there the israelis and americans had been asked to leave the country.. so we werent allowed to step out onto the streets..
all in all an awesome place.. great people and a wonderful experience...
