Two more, let me know what you think, and how they could be better.

1. This is an interesting shot. At first I didn't think it was anything special, however after breaking it down I actually kind of enjoy it. You tilted the photo, to give (hopefully) intentional motion as to the direction the pig is spinning. The biggest downfall of the image is that there is little subject-background separation. They are very similar in color, and sometimes you can get away with it if the background is heavily blurred or significantly darker / lighter however none of that is the case here. The background is blurred, however so are the edges of the pig, which again quite literally blurs the line between subject and background. Not knowing what type of photography you are going after - as a commercial photographer, I would have rather the entire pig be in focus with the background out of focus.

2. This is just snapshotty to me. Seems like there was little intent in this photo other than "here's a lizard!". Nothing wrong with it, just nothing I would post up for C&C.

For all I know the first image was just a random snapshot, however whether you realized it at the time or not there is intent in the photo. Recognizing that and growing from there is how you advance as a photographer ^_^

I see what you are saying for #1. I guess it technically was a snapshot as I was on vacation and just saw the pig. This is the second picture I took of it though. The first was just showing the pig on the stick, I actually tried to get a more artistic shot when I took this one.

I don't understand exactly what makes the iguana snapshotty though. When I think of snapshots, I think of flat pictures with everything in focus that don't follow any rules of composition and are basically documentation to help you remember what you saw and to show others. I took some time to get into the right position and took several shots waiting for the right pose, tried to follow rules of comp, etc. How would I have taken a photograph of this iguana? Or, what would make this shot a photograph?

I guess I need to work on understanding the difference between snapshots and photographs. I can look at shots and think that looks good, or that looks snapshotty, but translating it into my shots is difficult.

Thanks for the feedback, btw!

I would say unless its a really rare animal, or they are doing something unusual, its generally a snapshot.

Unless you brought it back to your house, put a bg behind it, used a bunch of strobes, and tried to work with it or something...
