yeah, some really amazing colors in those formations... makes for a great subject... it seems like such a unique place, makes me wonder why you don't see more photos of such a place. Is it off the beaten path?

This is one of my favorite places. About 20,000 years ago it was all under water. Surprisingly enough I had never spent any time in this group of pinnacles- My brother found a tunnel into one of them that allowed a good look at how they were formed from the inside. Incredible.

For most, there's nothing to do out there. Folks come and look and leave, maybe spending an hour or so. A couple years ago the place was riddled with dirt bikers and off-road vehicles. Camping is allowed, but OHV's aren't.

Star Wars and a couple bzillion other films and commercials have been filmed here. There was a commercial for Levis a few years back where they brought in maybe an hundred or so buffalo. This shot was fairly early in the morning. First light and at sunset, lighting can be surreal.

Remote?- About 7 miles from the nearest paved road, and to it can be driven by a passenger car. Nearest town is Trona, population is a couple thousand maybe, about ten-twelve miles away. Ridgecrest (pop. 25k) is about 20 miles to the west. About 150 miles north of Los Angeles.
