The Quietest Moments

YaY Kundalini scores!

:D

;)

Generally,

I really can't speak for Mr. Alini, but I'm thinking he put some thought into what the image may mean. Fortunately, he was familiar with the title reference, and I appreciate that. I was fine with a proper response being silence, ei: The Quietest Moments. Whether Kund understands it, likes it or not, he didn't specifically say- and I'm good with that.

The image was made and processed with that in mind. I shot it in 2007 as a 7-exposure HDR and reprocessed a few days ago with 5 shots for a large metal print. I'm going back up there in a few days to shoot again in the area and wanted to work with the probable light, to get a feel for what I'll be working with.

I shoot what I want, shoot it the way I want to shoot it, and post because I can. Honestly, educated opinions are worth considering, but in real life, the only opinion and tastes that truly matter is one's own. Lew does good work with kids and beginners, and I can respect that, but I'm really into doing what I do.

Yeah your right, I should have remained silent. Wrong side of the bed I guess. Apologies.

I was confused. I thought you were posting a peice of art, not a "name that song title" photo. I wouldn't have had much of a chance since that song came out 5 years before I was born! I was just comparing it to your other work I've seen posted. I had just been viewing your "still life is cheap" thread, beautiful.

It's cool Jake. You didn't make my ignore list. I've had otherwise positive comments from you before.

Maybe the first couple verses will help:

Even in the quietest moments
I wish I knew what to do

There is no way in or out of the shot- confusion- what to do? There is only quiet- the realization of silence, the necessity of decision without benefit of obvious choices (true subect).

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Dadaist type work. It's a form of its own, and possibly, this piece could be better viewed in that context. I believe the depth is there, but can't be seen by a superficial examination. Technically, the detail is incredible, and should provide much to look at up close while thinking it all over.

Now it all comes together. I'm starting to regret never getting into any art classes during my school years...

Actually, I queued the song up prior to my reply. TBH, I had forgotten the entirety of the opening verse. I listened to the song and had to replay that opening verse a few times with your image on the screen. It made sense to me. However, I may have a slight advantage because I remember a shot or series or some significance a couple years ago about this spot, perhaps not this same shot but still.... Although I know that the tops of the trees are permanently windblown, it doesn't take away from the feeling i got while viewing this image and listening to the song at the same time.

And even though the sun is shining
Well, I feel the rain, here it comes again, dear

To me, even though the sun is shining on a potential glorious morning (my perception), the tree tops are giving the sence that a storm is brewing and not in the too distant future. I feel the rain coming. RA has a way of giving you a heads up on these things. It speaks to me that we should take comfort in the moment, not rely on some prospects of things yet to be discovered.

BTW, yes, I do like it.

Thanks for taking the time Jake, I believe it's about the way someone looks at an image. Sometimes it's an effort worth taking, sometimes not. For me it is usually more interesting to hear/read what others may think before remarking on my own work. In this case the first response (from DBJ?) to the image was worthless and provocative to me.

Thank you, and yes, you've seen this one before. There are a few reasons I've reposted it, but regardless of those, you got it with the exception that it was sunset. It was so humid that spit would have floated in the air, and it rained all night.

BTW, "Still Life is Cheap", was a play on the title. It was about the emphasis;
Still, Life is Cheap
or
Still Life, is Cheap
http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/general-gallery/251088-still-life-cheap.html
What else does a photographer do with a dying vase of flowers and some time to kill?

& a final note: "Personal aide memoire", shows a lack of imagination and unwillingness to understand (IMO). Got to be careful with a phrase like that because I believe a face can stick that way.
