'tis a red rose alright, i've certainly think you've captured it as such. The problem for me is thats its quite cliche, thats not to say its a bad photograph

some thoughts:
1. burn the background to make the red stand out out more - it can simplify the picture for you as well.
2. try a more obscure a approach - everyone takes pictures roses in bloom - how about a wilted rose? If done correctly it can be just as powerful, but the meaning will alter

Thanks vonnagy .... this was straight out the can so to speak.

This is the very first photo done by my lad on his new camera. so it's cropped and bordered only in PS. Not bad for a 7 year old.
