The thin blue line.

The reason for posting this selective color picture is to prove that it can have a purpose! This photo is to mimic the "thin blue line" which represents fallen police officers. It is always displayed as a blue bar through a black background.

Tommy's end of watch was March 9th, 2010. He was killed when his car crashed while responding to a high priority call. He had been married only 5 months. He was 27.

I like the idea and very much respect what a thin blue line stands for, on a critique perspective I would suggest when portraying a design to be similar to it's original it would be best to get it as close to the resemblance of the original as possible, so with this image in mind, centering it down the middle would be best for composition and traditionally the line has always been thin therefore maybe choosing something blue that would represent a thinner line would be best but again I like where you're going with that. Very good idea.

It may indeed have a purpose but understanding the purpose is limited to those who know what the 'thin blue line' is (probably a fair number), those who know it is always a blue line on a black background and those who make the connection that this thick lettering represents the 'thin blue line.' It's isn't clear that the picture or the medals are in memory of someone or what that someone was.

In the picture itself, you have two centers of interest that aren't obviously connected sitting on a dark background that has some detail (because we see it at the top left)

I think this subject is very difficult to be objective about but as someone who tries to be objective and who is a stranger to the issue and the person, I don't think the picture holds together.
