The annual Tundra Swan migration is a big thing in this area. Literally thousands pass through. I found these on the one lake that has some open water on it at the moment. Unfortunately I couldn't launch a kayak to get closer. There were other waterfowl present; Buffleheads, Red Headed Ducks and Common Mergansers, but they stayed at extreme range and the pics I managed aren't really worth showing. Try again tomorrow.

What breed of Swan are they. We have loads of resident Mutes but get migrant Whooper and Bewicks.
 
looks cold, makes you wonder what sort of wintery hell they're escaping from.
 
These birds (the Eastern population) winter in the coastal mid-atlantic States. They're on their way to the northern tundra/Alaska.
