They are people

It is too easy when travelling to reify the subjects and forget that they are people with lives as complex as ours, just in a different sphere.

I took this in a passageway between two small streets. It was lined with the fronts of tiny shops and the back of restaurants on the larger adjacent streets.

" They are people" seems a bit depricating. Im not sure the meaning of depricting but it seems appropriate here. They sure are people! Human too? Is this some kind or racist dribble or a socio economic thing Im not sure. Either way seems rude Im glad they have shops and restaurants at leadt to go with their "reify".

Terrible pictures imo I dont know what the point is. Some kind if social commentary based on your description? One is a terribly exposed " person" with a hose, a Chef maybe? Wheres the respect!? I see coconuts I think and an apron? And " someone" oddly framed eating a bowl of something ( coconuts I hope) from apparantly a restaurnt housed by a shop on a street, somewhere.

Tourists take pictures of me sometimes I wonder if they are making fun if me on a forum somewhere in China calling me reify. Good word though! Re i fy. Got it.

Also, about your word. I looked it up and it doesnt make sense. To reify is to make them " the people two"more concrete and less abstract, so as not to forget? I guess. Still seems rude.

PS You cant just call someone rude because they call you rude! Its against the rules.

Having lived in the Far East I find them interesting images of the lives of ordinary people. Both images remind me of the back streets and alleyways of Hong Kong, only (I'm assuming this is Myanmar) Myanmar back streets would appear to be cleaner, if these are a good example.

I see no problem with the concept. The people shown would be just as interested in our culture if they came here and would discuss differences shown in their photos (and they'd take plenty) just as we do. I'd probably get photographed as "The tall, fat, bald, foreign devil peasant with a white beard who looks like he's a grumpy sod... and he was eating funny stuff that looked like some kind of beans in orange sauce on toasted bread!" Should I be insulted?

That could just as well be an alleyway in Mongkok or Kowloon City in the 70s. I've no idea if HK is cleaner under Chinese rule than it was as a colony, nor do I know what the Chinese authorities do with street sleepers.
