What's new

This is what I did

+1

Pop-up? Thats another prob in itself, get a real flash or brighter ambient and shoot a smaller aperture. Or yeah, crank the ISO as a last resort

I think you are over thinking things and probably playing with too many settings on your camera. The first one you posted is under exposed, your exif data says Metering Mode : Center Weight... Ok please correct me if I wrong because I am definitely not a pro but center weighted metering is kind of taking a large area and saying lets put the exposure in the middle, hence the white spot to the right of her being still white and blacks being black. But for this you wanted spot metering because for sure you wanted your daughters face correctly exposed. I think center weighted metering isn't used much. I shoot at f1.8 and get sharp shots at least wherever I am putting the focus on it is sharp. ISO at 400 doesn't seem necessary, but I suppose maybe it was really dark outside.

I'd rather shoot at ISO 400 than use the pop-up....IMO

That's because at ISO 25000 your images still look great... ha ha, I agree pop up not so great. I am anti-ISO because my photoshop noise reducer is broken, there's a slight chance I don't know what I'm doing but I would prefer to go with broken until I collect more data.

They don't always look very good. I exposed to the right for the shot your talking about. It took me a few shots to get it right. I exposed it to the point right before I blew out the highlights. Somebody on her once said that if you use a high ISO, like 3200 and expose it properly there will less noise than an image shot at ISO 100 with less than perfect exposure

I actually really like these shots but I'm wondering what your "white balance" setting is. Your baby looks like she would have a very warm skin tone but your images SOC look so blue. I just put them into elements real quick and used the "adjust color for skin tone" option, then upped the saturation just a little bit. It really brightened your beautiful baby girl up without making her look washed out and pale. If you want me to remove these, just let me know and I will, but just to show you what I mean...

That's a weird thing for someone on a woman to say, but I will try it. From now on I will be the king of over exposure, in my photos that is.

thanks, sammie lou...I LOVE IT!
