What's new

This might just be me

^ Same here.

My whole family is in the oilfield and all they do is watch sports and drink beer. Not exactly the most artistic atmosphere to grow up in. lol

I trying to get back into school for a fine arts degree, but the funds won't allow it at the moment.

Ryan, I am talking about how your personality effects how you see the world around you.

I find it MUCH easier to take good landscape/cityscape shots when not in my home town, i somewhat struggle with these shots in Lafayette, LA which is where im from. It's a pretty boring city for photography at least. I know GREAT shots can be captured here, but idk. I just find it much easier in places i'm not familiar with.

Can anyone relate to me?
I enjoy traveling to different locations but most of my photos are in my own backyard.

What I always wanted to do was put on my iPod and listen to some Coldplay and walk through downtown and shoot different subjects or better yet, landscapes that I felt emotionally. I feel that would be a good exercise to get out of complacement and stimulate your mind through new senses. Listen to your favorite artist and walk your favorite route. I think I may put that as a challenge one day.

That sounds like a WONDERFUL idea tbh. I wouldn't be listening to coldplay, but to each his own. Whatever type of music that generates emotion for you will do just fine.

When I am out shooting downtown, or any unfamiliar place, I never listen to music. I need to be totally aware of my surroundings.

But tell me:

I feel that would be a good exercise to get out of complacement and stimulate your mind through new senses. Listen to your favorite artist and walk your favorite route. .

How is listening to your favorite music (heard it 100 times) and walking your favorite route(walked it 100 times) getting out of complacency and something new?

Have you ever tried it? It sounded like a decent idea, but i can understand were your coming from.

I think music is a good idea. But then I also so what he means. You aren't tuned in with your surroundings if you are tuned into the music.

Valid point.

I have music on while I work, I even watch movies and tv shows, but when I am concentrating on my work, it all gets tuned out. When I am out on photo safari's I am usually alone, and I want to always be aware of what's going on around me. Hearing is often your first line of defense.

Even so, when I am in the city, I want to hear the city. When I am in the woods, I want to hear the woods. In my car, I want to hear music.US3, with the subwoofer cranked.

Do an experiment. Go to the same place 4 times listening to 4 vastly different styles of music, even music that is brand new to you, and see if it effects your shooting at all?

LOL i see your point.

I think your missing the point. MWG is wanting to rediscover his environment again, am I wrong? I just gave him an idea to "exercise" his mind into trying to find new perspective. Take it or leave it.:er:

It sounds like you are both saying to do the same thing to me.
