This resembles a what?

One day last week I took a walk through the woods with my 90mm Tamron lens and one speedlight mounted on the hot shoe shooting nothing important but was nice to get out for awhile. There was something about this fungus that intrigued me but it just wasn't registering until today when I realized it somewhat resembles a horse's hoof as far as shape.
