This thing is not mine

Good friends of mine were over two weeks ago for a few days and I had the pleasure to photograph their little girl. How could not smile when you see that face.

This picture was taken in my kitchen, and my kitchen has yellowish light. Both pictures have been adjusted in Photoshop to my liking. (Exposure:0.00 Offset:0.0078 Gamma:0.94)

But here is the question; which one is better when it comes to color? The first one has natural (yellow) color and the second I fixed the white balance. Thank you for looking and all your help!

Oh sure.. it looks cute now. Sixteen years from now when it's dragging home one loser after another who can't figure out how to use a belt to keep his pants from falling down around his ankles.. well that tune will change.. rotfl.

I like the second better myself, but I would point out that the green area off to the left is a little distracting, at least for me - maybe if it were a bit darker but as it is it keeps drawing my eye away from the subject.

the first one looks better as far as skin tone is concerned, for me. the second borders looking like a colorless zombie baby...the soft blacks add to this feeling/mood.

I agree the bg is distracting. I would try desaturating the color from the green area, or removing it altogether so it looks like the bg on the right side of the frame; it's very eery looking.

The WB in the second looks better on the whites but I like the skin tone in the first one better. The skin is just a little warmer to me, which I think looks better. JMHO

Lol - the youngest is going to be turning 16 shortly. The older two are out of the house now, thank goodness. All girls. Yikes. So sadly I know of what I speak there.. lol.

As to the pick, going to go with #2 yet again - the green background is much better, not so distracting.

1. This baby should have been cleaned up first.

2. Without knowing the baby's natural skin color, I find myself trying to discern the color of something else in the picture upon which to judge the WB. However, I now don't know the color of anything else for sure, so I think it falls on you to get the WB correct by comparing the color of the clothing in the photo with the genuine article.

3. This shot really needed some fill light to lessen the dark shadows in her eye sockets.

Lol.. well if you want a good laugh - My oldest girl was notorious for bringing home some really.. umm. interesting choices for dating material. One of them shows up one night and is parked out in the driveway, he starts honking the horn. My oldest wants to go out to meet him but I refuse. I explain to her that if you want to take my daughter out you will come to the door and introduce yourself, plain and simple. So I won't let her leave. Idiot in car finally gets out and comes to the door, I answer it and he says to me, "Dude! Is she ready cause we got to go".

I smile as sweetly as I can and explain to the young gent that he is allowed to refer to me as Mr. Robbins or perhaps Sir, but if he ever calls me dude again the only thing that will beat him to the hospital is the headlights of the ambulance he is on. I explain to him that if he wishes to escort my daughter anywhere he will park in my driveway, come to my door and ring the bell like a civilized person. I am not running a drive thru service. Then I explain to him that he won't be taking my daughter anywhere that evening or any other evening until he can properly introduce himself and we have a nice long chat about his intentions, wherein he will get a crystal clear understanding of my expectations.

My oldest didn't speak to me for about a week, but it was worth it.. lol
