Went to the springs the other day to get some shots of my friend. We got an ugly dress from good will to trash and an old one that did not fit her any more. These were shot on my cannon s90 p&s with it's water proof case (obviously). I had a very tough time getting the shots because for some of them, I had to swim down to 30 or so feet, find something to hold onto or just fit the buoyancy of my wetsuit and turn around and compose a shot. I could only get one or 2 per breath since the camera takes a while to recycle so the timing was very tough because my model would only be posed for a few seconds before she would reemerge for a breath. I didn't get many good ones but the ones that were good, I am proud of. Anyways, here they are:

Wow, these came out great! I really love the first and the last ones. And they all came out so clear. The poses look a little awkward in some, but that's to be expected when you're trying to do underwater photos. I love these. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like a lot of fun, if hard work.

1 and 5 don't do much for me, personally. I can't help feeling in 5 there must be a shark just off-frame.

2 is interesting, kind of missed potential ... the end of her leg being chopped off, and hair over her eye, detract from it for me.

3 I really like; brilliant photo. The light rays, composition, expression, pose, costume all work perfectly together.

4 is a nice portrait; she looks like she's enjoying herself.

Thank you everyone for your critiques, I agree with everyone so far. I will keep at it to get better shots next time. I think I will have to try it with some scuba gear so that I can actually compose the shots without struggling.

haha, yeah that is the only way I felt this shot worked- otherwise I would have dumped it. I took another one and was told that it reminded them of jaws. Not the best but I think it is kind of funny...

I was in a camera shop the other day and saw some underwater enclosures for cameras. It got me drooling a bit because underwater photography just always seems very cool.

I liked #2 best, but agree with the comment about the leg and hair.

I suppose that scuba gear would make for some good photography gear as well though~! :)

The whole reason I just got into Photography was for watershots. I have a canon 40d a sean from spl makes amazing water housings, the only problem is they aren't that cheap $1300+.

This looks like it was a lot of fun! :)

Third one is my favorite. The light and the whole picture just works. It's awesome!

I don't do enough stuff underwater to justify spending $2000 on a case for my SLR but for around $150 I was able to get one for the very capable cannon s90. A few other people on this site and Ken Rockewell say that it gives SLR quality images- and I agree when it is on land. I just have not mastered the technique for shooting underwater yet.

I agree that #3 is the best of these. I have one sort of similar that I think is much better but I can't post it here just yet. Thanks for all of your input!
