Thought I'd post some photos for the first time for a little C&C.

Here are a few of my outdoor shots that I'm particularly fond of. I was just curious about how they'd be viewed by the professionals. No post-processing on any of these. All three shot on full-manual settings (including focus) at 100 ISO.

Shot with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and 2 stop ND + 3 stop ND + CPL stacked.

Both of these shot with the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS with no filters.

I'm particularly fond of the shot of the two insulators.

I don't see any artistic elements in these aside from the water shot, which is really more of a "hey let's see what it looks like when we do a long shutter with water running". Other than that, the compositions are mostly just snaps of slightly interesting things but not portrayed in a way that is interesting.

look up the "rule of thirds" for composition improvement and try to see lines (trees or rock groupings or even water flow) that take the viewers eye where you want them to look plus make the intended subject matter in focus and interesting. Don't crop out uninteresting stuff every time. Sometimes that part of the image can be used for more interesting composition.

Composition rules aside... what's the point of your image? What's the message? The story? The feeling? I can make an image that follows all the rules but is still boring as snot.

No post-processing on any of these.
Rarely is this a sound approach for C&C. All images need some attention in post. There are times for technical reasons to show SOOC.

Curious as to why you are particularly fond of that shot.

I guess I don't have a specific message in mind. Perhaps that's my problem since I was just out and about one day shooting anything that caught my eye. I suppose I was trying to force some shots instead of letting them come to me. I've primarily focused on photographs of my daughter in the past, but I want to get more into the natural world and explore those options.

What is SOOC? Are there any type of "general purpose" post-processing techniques that should be considered right off the bat (things like WB, contrast, etc)?

Curious as to why you are particularly fond of that shot.

I liked the complimentary colors, and I thought they were an interesting find considering I was mainly taking photos of natural things that day.

I like the idea of the first one, work on that a little and I think you may have a great shot. Also, get rid of the shadow of your gear and your legs.
