thoughts on banned photos

now that bodies are starting to submerge in new orleans, i hear the media has been asked to refrain from taking photos. some of you are photo journalists, others, i'm sure have an opinion. how do you feel about this?

I think it's pretty gross that pictures of dead people are popping up. Can you imagine looking over a site and finding a picture of you dead loved one?

I've never really understood the fasination with taking pictures of the dead.

I agree with Bace. I think there are ways for journalists/photojournalists to show the horror of what's happened without showing dead bodies. I personally believe it's disrespectful to the family, and the deceased person to take a photo like that.

There are much more subtle ways to convey the loss that comes with death than a picture of a dead body. I think that pictures of dead bodies shouldn't have to be banned--printing them should never have been an option, in the name of decency, good taste, and out of respect for the dead.

Taking pictures of a disaster is going to be important.. Bodies should be seen but they should not be able to be identifiable..

With thousands still looking for their children, parents, siblings, etc., it would just amplify the horror to me. I have a hard time watching the reports on the living; those who lost their lives should be allowed to rest with dignity.

They'll all be photographed for varying reasons, but to help ID them is surely top of the list.

And if a picture is taken, it may well end up being viewed for reasons other than its main intent.

There will be a fascination with the morbid aspects of this tragedy. This is the same race that slows down to view car wrecks as we pass, right?

I fear money will be made at the expense of others....is there anything new with that concept, though? :meh:

We'd better brace ourselves.
