Is it good to learn how to use manual though? I've been using manual because I am learning how to use a DSLR. Im really slow at it and sometimes miss the shot. Aperture priority and shutter priority - is it better to play with those as a noob? Or is it different for everyone and based on preference?
Here's a little homework/experiment for you. Set up a few shots, preferably on a tripod so you meter in the exact same spot. Decide what you want aperture and ISO to be. Take the shot in Av. Switch to manual, use the same aperture and ISO, dial in your ss to zero out the meter. Compare the numbers. Repeat several times.
Is it good to learn how to use manual? Sure, it can only help your understanding. And, as already stated, when using flash, it will give you the control you need. But to think it's the end-all-be-all-that -makes-you-a-real-photographer is just silly.
