Tips For Moving Shots

I have a Nikon d3000 with 55mm to 200mm lens.

I love taking shots of my dogs running but a lot of my shots come out blurred.

Any Tips?

Also google 'panning'.

Motion parallel to the image sensor in the camera requires more shutte speed to stop than motion perpendicular to the image sensor.

Panning reduces the apparent parallel motion speed, and requires less shutter speed to stop the subject motion. No doubt, the backgrond will be even more blurred when panning.
