Then we saw a Juvenile Green heron. It took a bit to slowly creep along but managed to get in shootable position through the trees.

It knew we were there and didn't even react to us talking softly. It was a little surprised after preening when it noticed I was in a different position.

Nice set. Just like the last one I encountered , when he finally noticed me he gave me the same look and a few seconds later it bolted. They seem to like their privacy.

This one saw us coming and heard us talking. We we're pretty aware of when it would get uneasy and we would pause and be quiet enough for it to continue hunting/preening. It never did fly from us. When we were done taking shots we blantantly and not so quietly walked away and it paid no mind.
I've used this technique to get birds to become more accostom to me being around. In order for them to differentialte me from others I try to wear similar clothing (colour and pattern i.e. if I was wearing dark shorts and a grey top, that's what I always try to wear around it.) This doesn't always work but sometimes it works very well.
