I had read about the various incarnations of the Tokina 28-70 f/2.8 ATX PRO lenses and thus was aware of the somewhat odd one using the Angenieux design. A couple of weeks ago I saw one on eBay from Vancouver at a reasonable price. I've now had this lens for a week and have used/tested it on my D700 pretty extensively (about 1000 shots of pets/kids/brick walls/coffee tables/back yard) and I must say I'm not disappointed.

The build quality is second to none and image quality is on par with my Nikon 28-70. So yesterday I sold my nikon and based on my experience with the Tokina 28-70, and on the various reviews, I'm probably going to get a new Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 and still have money left over for a decent bag to carry my 2.8 zoom trio (Tokina 11-28, Tokina 28-70, Nikon 70-200).
