This came up in a recent thread. My tokina 11-16 for nikon dx mount flares like crazy. How crazy? See attached. I use the lens hood, if that matters.

Aperture: 2.8
Shutter 1/60
Flash: none
ISO: 1600

Is this an unusual amount of green lens flare?
Is the fact that the bulbs are LED contributing?

Can't seem to get the images to display as uploaded, tho they uploaded correctly. I'll edit OP to show image thru 3rd party web host (photo bucket in this instance...)

First image shows flare right under the lights; second shows flare to the left.

BTW: is anybody else have hit/miss performance with getting posted images to view?

Remove the filter.

I'm with Sparky... I'm guessing you've got a clear (UV) filter threaded onto the front of your lens. Remove that.

When taking photos that have light bulbs or strong sources of light pointed on the camera, it's common to get a reflection that bounces off the lens, onto the filter, and back into the lens -- giving you a ghost image of the light.

I certainly hope you have a filter screwed on the front ... or you have Ghostly Orbs constantly in your images ... instead of a badly flaring lens.

Remove the filter.
Sorry, shoulda mentioned, the lens is naked. Filter was too expensive! ;)

Would that be difficult to remove in post?

Ouch! Hopefully you didn't spend a lot of money on that lens.

Difficult is a relative term. Depends on your skills.

Most reviews on this lens mention that flare/ghosting is high with this lens (compared to others).

Here's my attempt to remove it:

DISCLAIMER: Laying on my bed posting- looked up and saw a light source, clicked at it for an example. To say the composition is flawed is an understatement!

Yeah, did't pay attention to any detail other than the green blobs.

Honestly, I bought this lens primarily for night photography anyhow.

As you can see, (fig. 1), if you hit a street light dead-on, the little green ghosts will appear (random shot from my yard for illustrative purposes).

You can sometimes 'hide' the light (fig 2, also from the yard)

Finally, turn that turkey heavenward (fig 3).

Ah yes, THAT'S why I wanted that lens...

BTW, bonus points for identifying the apparatus in the front yard

Looks like..............a car.

How many points did I win?

And do I get even more points by identifying it as a white Toyota?
