Too Hot To Handle

hey guys, was bored and taking shots of something else in the house and came across this broken thermometer, as the title suggests it seems like it got too hot and it broke or something....

i've uploaded it on flikr and a friend said he was unsure about it, it was a bit of a rushed thing as i quickly took the photo and got on the computer to process the raw and stuff...

what do you guys think, also, could there be a better way of shooting this thermometer, it's still in my balcony so i can re-shoot..

i think it needs more contrast, (ie true whites and true blacks in it) and more DoF

I can't really tell that its broken from this picture. Get creative with it.
