Photos NOT OK to edit
My first photos with my new DSLR. Pretty much random pictures. Didn't really get a chance to take pictures of more interesting subjects but it's a start. Thanks ahead of time for any comments and feedback.

Just a note, you will be more liable to get comments if you post pictures directly to this site. A lot of folks will not be bothered to click on your link, and then, there is always the problem of viruses, not to say you would ever knowingly pass one on, but outside sites can bring that risk that most people do not want to take.

#1. Nice picture, it is unfortunate that it is neither entirely in the sun nor entirely in the shade. Some of the parts in the shade look a little underexposed and some parts in the sun are blown out - this is often a problem with these sort of images.

#2. Colours are oversaturated - my opinion - tends to make the image a little "overcooked"...being in direct sunlight, the shadows are very harsh - concept is okay.

#3 Check out a composition guideline known as the rule of thirds. This would be a better image if the duck was in the left "third" of the image looking into what is known as "negative space" (check that out too) - this would give a sense of "action" in the image - "the duck is looking at something", whereas placing the duck in the centre of the image presents another "boring duck image" Also, it would have been a bit better, in my opinion, to have more of the foreground and background in focus - others may not necessarily agree with me, but that is just me and I have lots of "duck" pictures a lot of which are "boring duck" pictures, but that is how I learned...

The secret with birds and animals, in general, is to make sure the eye is in focus and often I try to capture what is known as a catchlight in their eye...you can check that out too - google "catchlight"...

#4. It's a bowl of Fruit Loops - what do I say? The top half of the bowl is out of focus. Suggestion - sometimes it is a good idea to show the "food" in the context of being "ready to eat", or "being prepared"...maybe, just maybe, show the bowl of Fruit Loops with some milk and a spoon in it, or something along that line.

Hope this helps a bit...

Cheers,

WesternGuy
