I think number 2 has the most potential as a good shot. It looks as though you may have applied to much sharpening to the image though. When you over-sharpen, the OOF area loses its creaminess and what should be smooth (like his boyish skin) looks blotchy. Here is a quick edit to try and correct that, but you will have better results with the original file:

What was done:
- reduced sharpening in the skin tones
- tried to bring some softness back to the OOF area with a Gaussian blur.
- deepened the tone in the background by multiplying a copy of the background at 30%
- increased the overall vibrancy of the image because it was looking a little grey.
- removed the scratch on his jaw
