After work we went and placed a carry out order for dinner, had a 15 to 20 minute wait so I pulled out the camera. Pictures were taken behind the shopping center where there's a little walk way with a small pond/creek

First time I shot a person with an SLR

Last picture was taken a little awhile ago, before she went to bed.

From my beginner standpoint, these are good photos. Most of the shots have good light considering its all natural. One of them is a bit bright, but when the moment is right, you take the shot with good sun or not.

A suggestion for next time: Try opening up the aperture a little more (lower number). Get that background nice and blurry, unless you already did this as much as the lens would allow. I'm a newbie with a point-and-shoot, so I don't know what aperture creates what depth of field. Besides, I probably couldn't do any better myself.

The last photo is my favorite. She looks so comfortable in front of the camera here, and the lighting seems to be very even and subtle. Plus the background is neutral, so it doesn't distract me from looking at her. She is the main event, after all... :)

Also, great job of cropping the photo in natural spots. I always am cutting off people's limbs, and you didn't do that at all! I know that's a beginner thing, but as a person who does this a lot himself, I appreciate a good photo without any photographic amputation :)

I hope my comments aren't taken the wrong way. I am only trying to help, and please keep in mind none of it should be taken as truth, only as opinion.

Thank you for sharing!!!

You haven't asked for C&C, so I'll not comment other than to say that try and keep your subject a little more off-centre, generally. Some nice work, especially for a first attempt, and I agree the last image is very good indeed.

Please do, I'm always looking for tips, even more so since I have no clue what I'm doing other then seeing a picture and saying to myself, "I like that shot"

=)

You are off to a good start, your exposure looks good, I would advise you to read up on the rule of thirds, It will help with your composition. Everything is a bit to centered

I agree, I almost always do things off center but this time around I said to myself nope don't do it this time, try it centered. =)

Great photos for your first time shooting with an SLR! Pretty gal too! :) There are some issues here and there, but you can always work on that later. I'd say you did quite well! Congrats!
