I see Nikon and Canon pro level glass comes in very high on the resolution scale when it comes to optical bench testing. Some of the lenses I've looked at are in the 3600 to 4000 resolution range at Photozone.
Pentax and the non pro level Nikon and Canon glass may come in at 1800 to 2400 resolution.
Is the difference between 2400 and 4000 resolution on the optical bench noticeable in all aspects of a photograph - from viewing on the monitor to an 8 x 10 print? Or is the higher resolution more noticeable on large enlargements only?
Thanks
