I seldom get to go anywhere, and when I do, I usually leave work behind.

BUT... tomorrow, I leave for 4 days. My wife and I are headed to California to visit our daughters and I'm bringing a camera. I have no small cases, and am unwilling to pack it in my checked luggage. Any thoughts?

I'm planning on bringing one body, one lens, maybe a filter and gray card.

Whatever bag you feel safe carrying it on with. You can hold the bag the whole time and I often hold the camera in flight (if I get a window seat) and take photos.

They make hip-cases that are made to fit one SLR and one lens.

Rucksack and bubble-wrap air mail packets have worked for me in the past for overhead baggage.

We'll be in San Francisco for a couple of days, then in Sacrameto for a couple of more.
