Triage - Documentary Review

Dr. James Orbinski is coming to our school on Thursday and my broadcasting class will be covering the event. Dr James (as he is called) was the head of MSF (doctors without borders) when they received the Nobel Peace prize in 1999. To help ready my students, I watched "Triage" yesterday in preparation to show it to them on Monday. The documentary covers his preparation to write a cathartic book covering his work from the early 90s to today. It provides an excellent humanitarian framework in contrast to the perceptions created because of the unfortunate situation around Blackhawk Down. I was in tears within the first 5 minutes, but the documentary is understated enough and powerful enough to make you want to watch the whole 80 minutes. If you have ever been interested in humanitarian work or social justice, you would be had pressed to find someone more willing to carry out that difficult work. A great historical perspective and yet another example of how we are incubated from so many horrors of the world.
