Thanks guys. I usually take a tripod and filters and try for some sort of longish exposure but this time I just went hand held with no filters.
Having the clouds on the horizon certainly helped to diffuse the sun.

Lovely shot, I really love the rays from the sun you've got here and with the clouds created a superp warm/cool toning bands in the reflection and the sea. I like you've hit the shutter as the tide was receding which helps draw the eye in too.

It's a nice, colorful shot and yes, that cloud certainly helped a lot in keeping that late afternoon light toned down. I learned recently that changing your WB to 8K or there about in the early morning or late afternoon can help with a picture. Not that your's needed it but just throwing that out there for if you or anyone ever wanted to give it a go and see what difference it would make.
