effing hell!
My tripod broke and I need one tomorrow.
I really wanted a good one, a nice sturdy one. Was looking on Amazon and the like, but now I'm in a crunch and I still want a good one but all I've got around here is a Best Buy and other stores like Walmart and such....

So any recommendations?

I bought my Manfrotto tripod (190xdb) at bestbuy last year when it was onsale. So you can check and see if they still carry them.

I went to a costco and they had DSLR photography starter kit (backpack, decent tripod, cleaner) for around $40. Not bad I think.

I have a Sams Club. I'm going today I'll look and see if they have anything.
I will also go into best buy. Thanks guys

I work at Best Buy, and I believe the Manfrottos are currently on sale. Good luck!

I need something sturdy. I'm renting gear for a wedding and I don't want to break it due to using a jacked up/cheap tripod.

I have a Manfrotto & a Velbon Sherpa & would say I prefer the Manfrotto because of the ball head & three position legs over the one position legs & three way head on the Velbon. However, both sets of legs are equally sturdy.

Get a tripod that can't break.

This is the start of a classic, classic, oft told, tripod story:
  1. Bought inexpensive tripod
  2. Which fails when needed most
  3. Time pressure forces purchase of another inexpensive tripod
  4. Which will also fail prematurely
  5. Leading one to spend as much money on tripod #3, as spent on the first 2 combined.
  6. Only to realize that #3 is short on features and versatility, leading one to spend as much money as spent on the first 3 tripods.
  7. Finally winding up with what should have been purchased in the first place, but spending twice as much money getting there. ;)

Personally, I think when a person accepts money and becomes a "professional" their role becomes different and the equipment becomes different; this is true in every profession. My advice would be the same as KmH's and gryphonslair99 - spend the extra money and buy a really good tripod, may be too late now but Federal Express is an awesome concept!

Excellent post.
