Is there any such thing as a compact, reasonably priced tripod that I could carry inside a backpack that is sturdy enough to hold say, a D90 with a 70-300 zoom? I'm not planning to shoot in hurricanes.

Thanks, Tom Beard

I would say check out B&H Photo and Video. Great website for all kinds of equipment and very knowledgable.

Radio shack sells tri pods for as low as like 10 bucks, they were a little flimsy but they have other that all ranged up to like 60 bucks..

pretty reasonable to me..

I bought a tripod a few weeks back for around $50, After the first shoot i went on, i was very unhappy with it, it was a piece of crap, knobs and everything were very poorly made. Took it back and got a velbon cx 586 for around 95$ (canadian eeeehhh yea hoser) It is 50 times better than that lemon i got before. So my advice is get somthing that is going to be worth carrying around and will help your photograpy. not screw it up.
