trouble with video playback (mac)

I have trouble playing video recorded on from nikon d3300, when it plays back on my quick time player its really choppy and freezes ect. I have an older mac book pro 2008 w/ 4 gigs of ram. I'm not sure if its something with quicktime or my mac itself but its annoying so i thought id post for any ideas.

What OS?
What version of Quick Time?
What format ar the videos in?
When was the last time you ran disk utility to check the disk structure?
When was the last time you ran disk utilty to check the permissions?
What are you graphic settings?
Have you tried something like VLC Player or Flip 4 Mac?
Are the files on the hard driver or on the memory card being played through a card reader?

thanks i tried a different player and it appeared fine, guess it was something wrong with quick time.
