What's new

Trying to bridge gap from Amateur to Pro

#1, reminds me of the new Alice In Wonderland. I actually don't mind #1 & #4, the other ones...No thank you.

Watermarks are getting more and more distasteful by the day around this neighborhood

I have to agree with Patrice on this.

1. I'd crop it TIGHT.
2. Not feeling this one at all.
3. The crop is weird, but I could like it if it had some major pop, better lighting, and no giant logo.
4. This one is gorgeous, but the logo looks like a giant necklace. It really kills the photo.
5. I kinda dig the green. It "could be" an almost "green man" type photo. But I'd like to see it even greener. But then again, that wouldn't be good for a hair ad, would it. Anyhoo, the bra strap HAS to go.

Keep at it. You, IMO, aren't ready yet, but I feel like with more practice, you could be.

I'm not pro by any means either. But is there a way to do a re-shoot? Before you do, sit down with your friend with some of her hairstylist books. ( You know, the ones that every salon has for you to look thru if you want a new style.) Don't look at them for the hairstyles, look at them for the photography. Have her point out which photos shes likes, and try to emulate them. Point out to her, that your not taking photos of the "models" your taking photos of the hair. And that that's where the focus should be. Their face is not important, their hair is.

There is so much to pull the eye in each of these, the hair work seems way down in the list.
I would say that you should shoot the hair and let the rest of what's in the picture serve as support - and that's not happening in any of these.

If you're showcasing your friends styling, then approach her work as product photography. None of these photos enhance her work and honestly, if I was looking for a stylist and saw these photos, I would pass. Additionally, be aware of posing when your model is sleeveless.

I have been weighing weather or not I want to use my logo as a watermark due to its size. I am re-evaluating my options at the moment. I want something where people can see my company name but I don't want the watermark blocking key parts of the photo. I find if you put your water mark in small text, people can crop it out when they get the digital copy for review.

IMO the huge watermark is hideous. It takes attention away from the main focus (in this case the person). I get what you mean about people cropping out the watermark but...you could always create a small watermark and put it in places that can't be cropped out! This would only work for photos that you are putting online.

Exactly! Let's make the watermarks tiny and easy to edit out!

pros dont have two different watermarks. be consistent with the branding at all times!

If you wish helpful comments, you also need to indicate what you intended to create. So we have a benchmark
