Twas the Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all ‘cross the forum,
Not a member was posting, or having a quorum.
My cameras and lenses were packed well away,
For I just had no desire to shoot anything today.

The members were nestled all snug in their chairs,
While images on Facebook made them pull out their hairs.
And my spouse in a ‘kerchief, and I in a cap,
With a zonked-out kitty asleep on my lap.

When out of my front lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I opened the sash,
Tore open the shutters and saw a strobe flash.

The blurring of shutters shot past my wide eyes
While multiple speedlights looked like fireflies.
When, what to my blinking eyes beheld here,
But a passle of Tamracs, and eight photographers.

With a spritely young leader, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment a camera went ‘click’.
More rapid than eagles her imagers came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now pixmedic! now, LaFoto! now, spanishgirleyes!
On, runnah! On, Darrel! On, terri and manaheim!
To the ballhead and tripod! To the lightstand so tall!
Photograph! Photograph! Photograph all!"

As filters and lenses and Cowboys did fly,
When met with a problem, they paused to ask "Why?"
Said one, "I’ve never seen a histogram like this!"
Would come the response, "Use an ND 10x!"

And then, in a twinkling, I saw a speedlight
Strobing and pulsing with exposure just right.
As I shrank from the fuss, and was turning around,
Down the hallway Mishele came with a bound.

She was dressed in,…. I can’t say,…. from her head to her toes,
Her ragged old cat-o-nines spoke years of woes.
The tons of accessories she had crammed in her pack,
I thought, "That poor thing, just think of her back!”

Her tripod has torn up, her lenses all scratched!
"What good is this lady?" my mind had to catch.
I worried that things would not be done right,
Before they were finished they all would take flight!

A wink of her eye and a twist of her head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
As every image was carefully matted and framed,
All working together like lion cubs tamed.

In less than an hour the portraits were done,
In less time than that we had photos to fawn.
Mish said to me, "It wasn’t that sour….,
I love what we’ve done in tonight’s Golden Hour!"

He spoke in a voice that would settle our nerves,
"I want a slight S in all the shot’s curves!”
Before I could ponder, the job was all done.
And those who were here said, "Gee, that was fun!"

Mish sprang to her sleigh, to her team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
I heard her exclaim when I turned on the porch light,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
