I really like the first abstract, the second would work better if his head wasn't chopped off at the top

I do not see anything in first one. I wouldn't even call it abstract. It's a shot of something. But the other one is very interesting I would work on it little bit more

I would suggest cropping the 2nd one vertically. You should try and use the rule of thirds, your husband is too centered and since he's looking off to the right it would be nice if there was more open space there (also called looking space).
