Its not me, its a friend so go ahead and criticize freely

hmmm.....colorcast on number one is a bit strange to me. He looks to orange.

Number two is a lot better. Good exposure and WB. But the crop is awfully tight. It even cut of the part of his lower lip.

In the first one, the white balance is off. Way too yellow

White balance is much better in the 2nd one. I'm not really liking the super close crop but, maybe that's just a matter of personal opinion. However, I do feel that if you are going to crop so close, the bottom of the lip and the one eyebrow shouldn't be cut off. I should be able to see the entire eye brow and bottom lip :)

Two portraits? Looks more like one portrait with 2 crops.

The square crop works here I think, but like the others before me said, it's too warm and maybe a bit green as well.

So are you saying if it *were* you, we couldnt c&c freely? Haha.

Sorry. Thats all.

Obviously #1 has wb issues. Close up's like this have to have a point. What I mean by this is if its for a face book avatar it would work but for a wall hanging portrait it needs more skin work especially around nostrils. Maybe clean up the stray eye brow hairs, blemishes, blood shot eyes, etc. Now if this was a rugged faced homeless guy you would PP differently to enhance that look. The focus and clarity is good. Keep it up.

He looks like a young keanu reeves.

I don't like color in number one or the crop in number 2 though.

I did a quick edit. Had some issues when I uploaded and noticed the pupil line but I hope it'll give you an idea. But keep working at it, takes some practice.

vtf - care to share your skin smoothing method? :)

way to much photoshop, what is this idea to remove the surface of the skin, people are not fashion models. If you need to pretend that you have perfect skin then the image will be a constant reminder that you need to be changed, is that what photography should be doing?

I use portrait professional. I got the studio version 32bit that acts as a plugin for photoshop. It works only for the body so other issues/effects in the image I still use photoshop. Takes a large photoshop learning curve down to minutes. You can adjust it from very small to extreme (babies turned into plastic dolls). The edit above took 5 minutes. Heres an example of my son.
