There is a High Structure B&W Luminosity Layer blended in with the base layer to give it the textural qualities yet allowed the color to peek through.

It's how I perceive it, so there's not a right and wrong only effects that you're trying to achieve.

You've established a strong connection between the hinge and the border not really by how the hinge is parallel and close, but mainly in how that rhythm repeats through the frame and how it divides the frame into equal parts.

Now this is should not be a problem as composition is all about how objects are placed within, and their relationship to, the frame. I find that the strong relationship defines the edges of the image better than the edges of the image itself, it creates a frame.

Don't think too much in absolute terms, (think of the hinge and change it's relationship to the frame by cropping), but think of the relationship as being between objects. Then the question could quite easily be, "how do you change the edges to make them stand out more against the hinge?" Which could just be defining the border, creating more contrast (difference) between them and strengthening both:

I like what you've done and in this instance will wait until I return home tomorrow and work it out on my main computer. I hate to edit on laptops because if the screen angle is just a touch off, everything else is also a bit off.

Exactly, I wholeheartedly agree. I didn't change it in any way apart from to add a border.
