Ok folks, I made a left turn at my comfort zone and decided to play a little with a living being. Maybe I should just stick with barns and cabins.
I couldn't think of a title for it, so I'm looking for idea's. We'll start with "Crap" and see where it goes.

First thing that springs to my mind is "Hope". Love the image BTW

Rick, I looked at this one for a few minutes, just looking. Here are some things that I took from it. I like the lighting and the shadows. It looks like you added a vignette, which to me makes it soft. I think that I would like to see the skin softened and go from there.

Over all, I think it is interesting to me.

I think you should wander out of your comfort zone more often. I find it somewhat dark, but I like the positioning and the framing.

Thanks Ron. I did put a pretty heavy vignette on this trying to bring your eyes to the center of the frame. I might have to play around with it again. The whole shot was a 5 minute rushed after thought. Next time, I'll have to take my time

Thanks Paul. The dark, flat and softness was almost a mysterious mood I was aiming for. It may have missed it's mark

Rick, you are getting some good reviews on this, so don't change it on my account. It is an interesting photo as is (I wouldn't have spend 3-5 minutes just looking at it if it weren't)

I don't think you've missed the mark - the idea needs some more work on it. I can't tell you what direction to go, as it's your vision. It feels "right" as it is, even though it isn't (yet) a "wow". Maybe the word I'm looking for is that it needs more "development".

hands are intriguing. you look for signs, nail polish,chewed or gently filed nails, fade from a wedding band, or wedding band lines. The roughness and texture of them, or softness of them. The age of a person, guessed from their hands, or the spots on them, or the hair, vein lines.

i like it. i think you could keep going this direction and come up with some good things.

Thanks Ron, The funny thing is, this isn't what I really enjoy doing. Like my other still life's, it's fun to play around on rainy days or between ideas, but what I really enjoy doing is simply recording things around me that interest me. I know that's why I was so attracted to your sign photos. Like I said in your thread... Just good ol' fashion photography.

@Timor: I live in Berks County which is right next to Lancaster County. Both agriculture counties. I'll get back to you when I run out of barns


@ Paul & Bribrius: Thanks. This was literally a 5 minute experiment. I like to play, experiment and test myself, but as Paul knows, I never have been drawn to the artistic side of photography. For me, the goal is the technically correct record shot of things around me.

Funny, many a time that's what trips me up from getting a compelling image. Keep it fluid, darlin'. Like here: this has a lovely, soft and magical feel to it. Instantly drew me in. Stepping outside of the comfort zone is the best goal, really, because it forces you to explore that unknown - and you did great here! Keep up the good work.

Thanks Terri. It was a fun experiment with very different results then I anticipated. Now, can I interest you in a fine photo of a local cabin

Reminds me of an ambrotype.

I agree with pgriz that the wow factor is still amiss, but it's very close.

I suggest pushing the processing just a bit more.
