Just got my new 50mm f/1.4 USM lens :D - Finally got a halfway decent day, so I ventured out and gave it a whirl. Still learning Digital Photography in general but critique is much appreciated.

I don't know if I like it now, but I did at the time. I may have to go back.

Idk why but I like it.

Not as clean as I hoped it would be.

really nothing?

Well, since you bumped it, I'll give you my noob critique.

#1. doesn't really have a subject. The foreground doesn't stand out clearly from the background. What stands out is the decking.

#2. Seems like you were having fun with DOF. Not enough is in focus and framed dead center. would be better with smaller aperture and more of a rule of thirds crop. still, not that interesting. When I firt got my 50 1.8, I loved any shot with shallow DOF.

#3. I really like this shot. well framed. Rocks follow lower 1/3rd line. Maybe a bit underexposed. To make it different, you could have gone with a longer shutter time and gotten more of a curtain effect from the water.

#4. I don't think the shallow DOF helps. Could use a wider view.

#5. Not sure what to say. Too symmetric? Maybe shooting from lower and focusing either far or near but not in the middle.

#6. DOF too shallow. Leaf should be in lower 1/3rd. I like how the vine and branch frame it.

Looks like you are having fun with the 50. I hope this critique is helpful. I'm new to this too.

Thanks :D I think most of it was just having fun with that crazy awesome DoF - I think I'm still just like you said enjoying anything with that shallow DOF.

I liked the waterfall shot myself. I wish I would have went with an even slower shutter speed - Would have needed a tripod though. Didn't carry mine with me though. The underexpose was an attempt to slow the shutter speed. I prefer to keep my ISO super low though i know going to 800 or even a tad higher really doesn't make much of an impact. Thanks for the comments. Still learning. I was to find that leaf shot again and recompose it.

Behind the waterfall is the only one that does much for me. The majority seem to lack a focal point and I agree the bridge is too symmetrical for there being no clear point of interest.
