Upgrade from Sony A77...

Where did you get if from? Often times camera stores will open lenses to test them out or to inspect them. Even if there is a customer who is interested they will take the lens out and test it while they are in the store. They will still sell lens as new at this point.

I suggest inspect it and make sure it is working proper. IF not send it back and ask for a new one.

I got it from an eBay store. Yea I know, probably big mistake. Right before I left for work I noticed something... The SN should have US in front of it, right?
The outer glass elements was a bit dirty, cleaned it up with a lint free, but still kind of cloudy

It works 100%... But just bothers me a bit. Not a cheap lens to get something other then new.

YEs US will have US in front of the serial number other wise its a grey market

Also, should the focus ring be so... "Slick"? It moves almost too easy compared to every other lens I have used.

means its its grey market and nikon won't service it if something goes wrong, also lose a little value on resale
focus ring should be tight

Yeah sometimes its worth the money just knowing. Sorry to hear that you did not get what you really wanted. I know thats a bummer. But ebay should do right since its not the quality.

Make sure you look in the seller description about their return policy and also if they listed it as US or Grey….usaully things like that should be disclosed because it does effect a buyers buying decision

I make sure whatever I buy can be returned, so I'm good there. I have looked the description over and over, no where does it say either or. So I assumed all would be well. Not so much.

Thanks, the wife just informed me my replacement lens just got in, and I have my RMA info to ship out the crap one back. Super excited to be done at the dentist and get home

I'll take pics of it all together tonight. Wish the weather was better. Quite cold here in noVA. I want to go out and use all this new equipment.

Wow that was quick, looks like you are set. Nothing like a huge chunk of FF NIKON in your hand.

Not the best of pics... But the big stuff is all here. (Tripod and flash batt pack not shown)
Can't wait till the weather gets better. One thing I'm hoping is that my 120-400 is enough reach for me. Have 55-300 on my A77 I have been using, and forgot being crop is like 500 or something...
But the quality is better so we will se.
