Upgrading from 60D for undewater photography, looking for input, please. 6D - D600 or

I have put this in the equipment section as it is not particularly brand specific, but if its in the wrong place please feel free to use it.

I am currently looking at upgrading from my G12 underwater system that I have for underwater photography.

My current DSLR is a Canon 60D. I do not want to invest in an underwater housing for this camera, I have been using this camera mostly for motocross pics as well as general photography. Current lenses for the 60D, Canon 24-70 f2.8L, Canon 100mm f2.8L macro, Tamron 70-200f2.8, and Canon 18-125. The only lense that would be used for underwater would be the 100mm macro. The Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 is going to be replaced with either the new tamron or the sigma 70-200mm.

I have been reading reviews on the 6D and the D600, it appear that the D600 comes out on top in most of the reviews. The 5D mkiii would obviously be the best choice but it is quite a bit more expensive that either the 6D or D600.

With proceeding w/ an upgrade I am going to have to purchase a wide angle zoom, 16-35 range. Replacing the 70-200 will be the same with either Canon or Nikon, being the lenses I am considering are both 3rd party. I would have to purchase a new macro lens if switching to nikon.

My question is would now be an ideal time to switch from Canon to Nikon? or is the switch even necessary or even wise. Would a better plan be to bite the bullet and buy the 5d mkiii. I would like this next purchase to be the last camera for a very long time.

I don't see the need to switch to Nikon and waste time for saling canon lens.

All this time 5d2 was excellent choice.
What changed with the release on the market 5д3 ?
Did became 5д2 worse from this ?

The 5D mkii is not a camera that I'm really considering for the reasons of the slow AF and the fact that camera is towards the end of its life cycle.

With the new crop of full frame dslr's lead me to believe that if I buy something current, I wont have to buy another one for a very long time. Just pondering on the best way to go.

For what its worth, I have people interested in buying the macro, and 70-200.

May I ask you the following question?
Did you really has practice of using 5d2 ?

It very important question, because only your own hands can give you answer on the subject of speed focus. Not the rumors in net ! That is why maaaaaany and many photographers continue to take pictures with 5d2 successfully.

Anyway you can test 5d2 at shop. Mayby AF is not such bad ?

I have a friend that owns the local photography shop. He recently upgraded to the 5d mkii, and has said he will never go back. From what I understand the AF on the 6D is better than the 5D mkii.

The one thing that needs to be considered is that a good underwater housing for a DSLR is over $1500, not something you want to buy more than necessary.

From my understanding (I dont buy into the whole 5dii focus blah blah) the focus on the 6d is better in lower light if you use the center point only and recompose. Can you shoot like this underwater. Obviously the light is limited the farther down you go. If one excellent focus point will do the 6d seems fine, but if you can work better with a higher quantity of "good" focus points the d600 will serve better

Of course he will say it ! He paid the money while already had an excellent camera And what did he bought? 5d3 ? Yep! He dont have reasons to go back

Now you can change the sistem, but, IMHO, you'll change one kind of cons to another and not the fact that they seem to you more tolerant.

If you have Canon lenses like the 100/2.8L, I'd say stick with Canon. I have a 6D and love it, especially for the high ISO - clean images through 12,800 and beyond. For your underwater IMO you'll like its low light performance (even better than 5D3), small size, short shutter lag (similar to 5D3), etc. In my experience, the focusing is fast/accurate in low light with the center point (reportedly even better than 5D3 in low light). If you have a lot of fast moving creatures, I don't know how it will behave however. Canon claims it's also dust and weather resistant (whatever that means), which you might like in case you get an occasional splash on it. Let me know if you want me check something on my 6D or have questions.

Thanks for the input, I think I will have to see what these cameras are like first hand. I may just bite the bullet and buy the 5D mkiii and turn my eyes away from equipment reviews for a very long time, lol.

I think transmit from the 60d to 6D is better.
