Using a flatbed scanner to scan cylindrical objects

I want to 3d model a red bull can, I'm not sure how to get a texture which is Cylindrical What I was thinking was to disassemble an Epson Perfection 3490 scanner
Instead of the stepper motor driving the scanner a 3d printed jig holding the can will rotate it above the scan head. Do you think this would work.

Welcome to the forum. I:m not sure what you're aiming at. But would taking numerous shots of the can all the way around and then using a panoramic program to put them all together work?

Not sure if the software would work if the scanner is apart not functioning as it should.

The scanner would receive too much ambient light to actually scan the object. That's why scanners have lids...

If you want to disassemble something, take the can apart and flatten its body.

Thanks for the replies, some good advice I will use a Dremel to cut the top and bottom of the can off and scan it flat

That would be my recommendation. If you are going to do this a lot, then research 3D scanners.
