Using LED and or mobile phone photography

On Saturday I saw (no web presence sadly) some really good photos taken with a mobile phone (iPhone 6) , close up lens and led for illumination.
The subjects were on the bigger side e.g. butterflies, I can't remember now what the smallest size was now.
Has anyone tried either using a mobile or a led for illumination instead of a flash.
I have used a torch once and it worked ok (can't find the photo now).

I've see the phone used several time to light up a small subject. And it worked.
You use what you have.

My concern with using a phone is the MANY uses it is used for and thus a drain on the battery that Apple probably did not plan for.

Example: On vacation I recall seeing a couple getting their picture taken, and the guy taking the picture saying "your battery is empty." Now what are they going to do?​

So heavy use of the phone also calls for logistical planning, like maybe carrying a power stick to recharge the phone.

True about heavy use of the phone, but sometimes my wife sees interesting insects and she might photograph them with a phone, she will NOT with a camera.

BTW I was talking about the phone being used to photograph the subject, not light it.
