Go to the share button on flickr - above your picture - click grab the HTML/bbcode. Make sure you check off that you want the bbcode. Then copy and paste right here.

These are both two examples of my first real try into flash photography before this I have been more of a whats outside natural light with a reflector kinda guy. Both of these were no other light really to speak of just me and my 580 and 430 I just bought, and taken at night.
This one yes I know he is blended into the background and I should have put some sort of light to distinguish between him and background however I was trying to make just a head figured it kinda fit the expression and look....hit or miss the mark?

C&C per req:

1. I rather like this; I would crop most of the blank space image right, and perhaps see if I could brighten the right (image left) side of his face just a little, but other than that, good job.

2. This one is a good attempt, but I think it just misses. The background is slightly distracting, and I think a little more DoF as well as just a bit more light (say 1/3 stop) low image left would have helped.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

It sounds like you already know what you need in #1. The light looks okay, but the image is underexposed for my taste. But as you already know, it's just a floating head.

#2 has nice light, but I don't like the composition or what she is wearing as, and maybe it's just me, I'm attracted to all the wrong parts of the photograph....

LOL I did not get to pick out the outfit :( and I like some of the "distraction" lol :D

TiredIron I tried to increase it but then I started blowing out the other side I tried a reflector and then it just did not look right because like i could not get her whole side evenly lit. You think A third flash on real low level set back further would help on this or what? Or perhaps just a bigger reflector I only brought a small one I was not really thinking this was a last minute thing really. As far as the DOF had I increased it then the background would have been even more distracting don't you think? I need to play more with that background I really like this area lots of different stuff with the tracks and the old tin building in the back with graffiti all over it. Maybe show more of the background to make it less distracting, or perhaps lit it as well?

Thanks for your inputs they are appreciated

Like this better?
